Background of the Project
KMITL Distance Education project started in July 2004, which has aimed to provide the global network service and solutions for KMITL Distance Education and to distribute the knowledge that offer content anywhere, anytime, and through any media on UniNet network.
Due to the fact that KMITL network system has implemented the high-speed network of 10 GB, in the process to exercise the optimum functionality of the network, the Computer Research and Service Center had organized the first Tele-conference discussion on 3countries of Thailand, USA and Japan on the subject of “Environmental Friendly Design”, in collaboration with the college of Architecture and Planning at Ball State University, USA and with Tokai University in Tokyo, on June 7th, 2005. This program offered the course that combines synchronous and asynchronous learning approaches. Synchronous learning is facilitated through interactive videoconference, simultaneous linking all participants with guests speakers. For asynchronous learning, participants have access to the course's website containing a repository for all learning materials, and also featuring communication tools such as electronic discussion forum.
Following the success, KMITL hosted another 3 tele-conferences training program on the subject namely “sustainable Houses” on August 30th, 2005, “ Thai-Japanese Culture on Architecture and Environment” on June 3rd to July 1st, 2006 and the second tele-conference discussion on “ Environmentally Friendly Design” on February 24th, 2007.
The first training program on “Thai-Japanese Culture on Architecture and Environment” which KMITL associated with Office of Information Technology Administration for Education Development (UniNet) Commission on Higher Education, Tokai University and Ball State University offered students and participants a joint certification of 3 organizations: KMITL, Commission on Higher Education and Tokai University. There were 75 participants who received certifications.
The second Tele-Conference Discussion Training Program on “Thai-Japanese Culture and Environment” aims to promote an understanding of culture between Thailand and Japan on the subject of Architecture and Environment.
